— feeling confident
Chrysanthemum - Kevin Henkes

This book is about a little girl who gets made fun of at school because she was named after a flower. The little girl does everything she can think of to prevent the bullying but it does not work. Change only happens when a loved adult tells the students about her own name being from a flower. So the girl learns that it was alright to be different. That differences are what make a person unique and great. It teaches a great lesson to students. It is great to use in the classroom if students are not getting along or possibly to help prevent bullying over similar reasons. The lexile level is 410L so students would need to be around the 1st or 2nd grade for independent reading.
